Wing Chun "Chi-Sao"(Sticky-Hand)
The purpose of Chi-Sao is to help students learn how to maintain their own body structure and balance with complete relaxation, and to be able to execute their movements with ease.
The following footages depict the difference between a beginner (wearing white) and an advanced instructor (wearing black). Notice how the student in white is struggling, his entire body is tense, while the instructor's movements are flowing with ease. The student's wrists are "attached", they lack flexibility. As a result, he becomes unbalanced, has difficultly pivoting and maintains a poor stance. But, most importantly, the student in white's overall tension means that his true strength cannot be fully realized.

Richard Ma's "Action Maker" official website
"RICHARD MA ACTIONMAKER is an improvised, cinema verite-style film about a real person obsessed with transforming himself into a fictional character in a Hollywood blockbuster. The very real Richard Ma is a leading man looking for something to lead, a stoic, heroic Kung-fu dynamo wasting his talent in the dull routines of the real world. But all that is about to change. He's written a film script and enlisted his best friend as director. He's on the way to securing a large budget with the help of insurance fraud and loan sharks. And he knows his martial art moves will rock audiences around the world. "
Instructor Richard Ma takes this film as a promotion to let the audience experience a new style of martial art called "Twisting Fist". This is Instructor Ma's first time to use Twisting Fist to choreograph the fighting sequence in a film.

Wing Chun Sticky-hand in class 6/20, 2010.
Mr. Liao was the third student came from Lo Man Kam's Wing Chun Studio. His reactions were very fluent. He told me that I didn't use any power but already made him feel pressure. He also felt that my hands are very sticky, hard to get rid off. I told him that it all has to do with the experience. Once the experience turned into habit, the reaction would be naturally built.

Class Diary 6/13, 2010.
I've never written a class diary, but today's experience is very valuable, therefore I decided to write one.
On Sunday, lots of rain. Two students came to see me and would like to try out for a lesson. They were wearing the uniforms of "Lo Man Kam Wing Chun Studio", the most famous Wing Chun institute in Taiwan. They told me that they were experiencing a very slow improving progress, therefore they wanted to take some extra studies from me.
I tried a bit sticky-hand with both of them, and I told them that the main problem is that their arms were very stiff, and they didn't balance well. I started to teach him the basic structure, relaxation theory of Wing Chun, hope they could follow my lead and practice at home.
The fact that they were coming from "Lo Man Kam's Wing Chun Studio" gave me a lot of confidence, due to Master Lo Man Kam's reputation. I was very excited to teach them, and I felt proud of it.
